Are you familiar with Lebron James campaign #MoreThanAnAthlete? We have one of our own: #MoreThanATrainer.
But wait, we’re not supposed to say Trainer! Yup, that’s the point. Engage in dialogue, spread awareness, educate why we are SO MUCH MORE than the label attached to our name.
Lebron’s campaign calls the issue for what it is: demeaning, belittling, and restrictive. Which is EXACTLY what the term “Trainer” is to us.
In celebration of ALL the ways we work, we spent #NATM2020 sharing why all of us are #MoreThanATrainer and the mantra took on a life of its own.
Check out our highlight bubble for the latest HERE.
Here’s a recap of NATM 2020:
“I’ve worked side by side with #AthleticTrainers across my career, from the #military to academia. ATs are amazing colleagues and when we work together with the patient’s goals in mind, we achieve truly remarkable outcomes.” – Jeremy Houser DPT, PT“As the Operations Manager for our business, Ginny has gone far beyond her clinical education and the skills she used working in the field as an Athletic Trainer. She advocates, she negotiates, she implements, and she demonstrates leadership. Moreover, she is a mother, and a member of her church, and an avid LSU fan. She is so much #MoreThanATrainer to our company, the clients she corresponds with, her family, and her community.”“Athletic trainers provide different perspectives in collaboration with the strength staff to ensure the health and performance needs of #studentathletes are met.” – John Stein, MS, CSCS“Kat Coovert is, quite simply, the most important asset that I could ask for as a coach. She keeps my players healthy and on the field, is in constant contact with me regarding injuries and irritations, no matter how small, and has a gentle, reassuring approach that keeps my athletes optimistic but realistic. Her work is often under-appreciated and unnoticed but she remains the hardest worker in the athletics department. Kat is invaluable as an athletic trainer but as a friend she’s something more. She is one of the greatest people to ever walk into my life and I am eternally grateful for everything that she does.” – Jo, Softball Coach“She always caters to her students and patients needs in caring for them the best way she can.” -Angela Perez, Former Intern-Sportz Factory“Without the two athletic trainers, I wouldn’t be going into Pre-Med. They inspired me to pursue sports medicine as a career path. They’re like my mom away from home. They helped guide me through so much more than just my injuries and helped support me emotionally too. Always there to make me smile when I’m upset or make me upset when I’m too smiley (during a game).” – Kayla, senior basketball player“Being able to work closely with an #athletictrainer who assesses your strengths and weaknesses, creates programming to maximize your performance, focuses on injury prevention, and is integral in rehabilitation processes, has been an extremely helpful tool in ensuring that the show DOES go on, but in the most safe and healthy way.” -Alyssa Quezada, Coach of Professional NBA Dance Team
“Sadie is more than just a trainer in many ways. She is the most caring individual & looks out for your best interests beyond an injury/recovery. She’s one to follow up after a session just to see how you’re feeling. She puts a lot of thought into each session and is always striving to help reach personal goals. She started as my athletic trainer and turned into a great friend.” -Kadi, Former Patient”Jimmy is “More than an Athletic Trainer” because he looks outside of his service responsibilities to the patient and is proactive in grooming the athletic trainers of tomorrow.” – Steven Westereng, PhD, LAT, ATC, CSCS, Chair, Assistant Professor“My name is Kevin Sparrock and I am a Division 1 and a @WNBA basketball official. I am blessed that my wife Dr. Ajaya Williams is an #AthleticTrainer. Dr. Williams has helped me to realize that referees are #athletes. Athletic trainers have given me the techniques to maintain and survive in my career. I have been a #basketball referee for over twenty years and through my relationships with Athletic trainers I found better ways to prevent injuries, recover after my game and the importance of nutrition.”
